Transparency of Arctic activities is the foundation of a sustainable future

Why Arctic is important?
Data from the last year shows unprecedented rates of climate change in the Arctic. In 2025, record high temperatures were recorded for the last 125 years. The Arctic landscape is changing due to the climate crisis: fires are intensifying, permafrost is melting, ice is thinning, and biodiversity is changing.
In addition, with the start of Trump's new term, the region has further strengthened its position in political discussions. Not only the “Arctic” states are participating in these conversations, but also other interested parties, such as China and India. The Arctic is increasingly being mentioned in the context of militarization.
At present, more than 13,000 people and about 2,500 organizations are involved in decision-making regarding the future of the Russian Arctic. According to Arсtida's investigations, a number of them are involved in corruption schemes, receive illegal profits, and cover up violations that lead to catastrophic consequences in the region. At the same time, the voices of the Indigenous peoples of the Arctic often go unheard, even though the changes taking place directly affect their lives.
Arctida is the first Russian NGO to focus specifically on the intersection of three critical and interconnected challenges in the Russian Arctic: climate change, kleptocracy, and Indigenous rights. This integrated approach reflects the reality on the ground, where these issues overlap and compound each other, yet are too often addressed in isolation.
